Overview
This “skate park” is actually just storage for the ramps that were located at Hampden Park above Reading High School in the 90’s. The school turned the old lot ramp location into parking for utility trucks and the city moved the ramps but never actually took out an insurance policy to make this site an official “skatepark”. The reason the ramps were moved to a corner is because people dropped concrete off the viaduct and destroyed the ramps and the city realized they were liable if someone fell and got hurt without an insurance policy on the ramps.
Now the site has a new Olivet’s club that was built 2 years ago next to it making it a safer location that isn’t a breeding ground for vandals. The ground is cracked so the goal is to work with Reading Skateparks and resurface the ground (knocking out the old asphalt and putting a new layer of smooth concrete down) and do a smaller build once that is fixed.
